"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" Swings in to Top Spot 

Swinging in to theaters with gusto, "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" stole the show at the box office for the weekend of July 11-13, 2014.
The much hyped sci-fi action drama nabbed $27.8 million on Friday and will finish the three day period with over $70 million in receipts.
Coming in at number two after spending the last couple weeks on top was "Transformers: Age of Extinction." The Mark Wahlberg fronted adventure took in $4.9 million on Friday, and will add another $16.7 million to its impressive cumulative totals.
Rounding out the top five in earmarked earning are Melissa McCarthy's comedy "Tammy" ($12.9 million) in third, the Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill cop comedy "22 Jump Street" ($6.8 million) in fourth and Dreamworks' "How to Train Your Dragon 2" ($5.5 million) in fifth.
